Well the Christmas season is well and truly upon us. Our shops are decorated and looking beautiful and the count down is on for many of our clients for a busy few weeks of shopping, socialising, Christmas concerts and of course the magical school nativity play if you are lucky enough to get an invite!
BUT … all of these Christmassy activities can often be a challenge for hearing loss sufferers. Pubs are more crowded, coffee shops are too noisy, children are more excited, and many people can find themselves struggling to hear more than they usually would. Sadly, we know that some people who suffer from hearing loss will even avoid these social situations altogether as they find hearing so difficult. Or they get so fed up of being unable to hear the conversation, they just withdraw themselves and don’t interact, or just nod their heads along at all the wrong places. This is why hearing loss can so often lead to feelings of desperation and isolation.
WE CAN HELP
There are simple things you can do though to improve your hearing and how well your hearing aids work, and these will help you make the most out of the Season and not miss out on any magical moments. So if you have hearing loss or you wear hearing aids, regardless of whether they are private hearing aids or NHS hearing aids, read on for some tips and advice:
- Do You Have Hearing Aids?
If the answer is no, maybe now is the time to find out if you need any. Please call us on 0800 313 4304 to arrange a FREE hearing test. It is totally without obligation and as Wales’ largest independent audiology company, you are in safe hands.
If you already have hearing aids please read on below!
- How Clean Are Your Hearing Aids?
Hearing Wales offers a FREE clean and check service for your private hearing aids. During this service your hearing aids will be checked and you will have new filters fitted and this will ensure you really are able to hear as well as possible with your hearing aids. We can also show you some tips and tricks on how to clean your hearing aids yourselves. In most cases we can do this as a walk in, and while you wait.
- When Were Your Hearing Aids Last Adjusted?
Your hearing may change from when you had your hearing aids fitted. Some people may think that they need new hearing aids but in most cases we can just retest your hearing and readjust them to your current hearing loss. This can really make a big difference to how well you hear and give you the ‘new hearing aids’ feeling.
- Have You Checked Your Hearing Aid Batteries?
Did you know that there is a Best Before date on your hearing aid batteries – please check these are in date and that you have plenty to last you through the season. If you need any more we currently have a hearing aid batteries special offer for 60 batteries for £20 and FREE POSTAGE. Call 0800 313 4304.
- Do Your Ears Need a Christmas Clean?!
If you have wax blocking your ears, having the ear wax gently removed with micro suction can greatly improve your hearing. Our audiologists are able to provide this service for you in our hearing clinic in Newcastle Emlyn, Narberth, Mumbles, Swansea and Cardiff. If anyone suffers with mobility problems we can also provide home visits for micro suction ear wax removal throughout Pembrokeshire, Ceridigion, Carmarthenshire, the Vale of Glamorgan, Llanelli, Bridgend, Newport and Rhondda Cynnon Taf.
- Will Hearing Aid Accessories Help You?
There are now many clever and fantastic accessories that can really help maximise the performance of your hearing aids, including streaming your favourite Christmas movie straight from your TV and in through your hearing aids, or having a microphone strategically placed on the Christmas table to be able to hear all ends of the table conversation! Whatever hearing aids accessories you are interested in, please contact us to find out more.
But also, please remember that if you don’t have hearing loss restaurants and busy pubs are also difficult environments to hear in, so everyone will often be struggling in those situations to some degree. Take heart that you are not alone, and pop in for a sherry to chat through any hearing aid questions you might have!
Lastly, Hearing Wales offers lifetime aftercare with every hearing aid that we fit to our clients. We want our clients to have regular check ups, ideally every 6 months. If you do want to book your check up before Christmas, we may still have a few appointments available but please book in soon! Call us on 0800 313 4304.
